Irene Sandell combines her passion for writing with her love of Texas History to tell the story of the people who settled and tamed Texas. A former Texas History teacher of 25 years, she enjoys collecting the “side stories of history” to enrich her novels and tell the heartfelt adventures of people woven into true places and events.
Irene also is the creator of 20 documentary films that tell the history of Texas, and she has written several nonfiction books on Texas and the United States that are presented in schools and organizations across the state. [Texas History Documentary site]
Her novels have earned writing awards from several organization, including the WILLA Literary Award from Women Writing the West and the Will Rogers Medallion Award for best Western Fiction.
She and her husband live in Plano, Texas.
